The Effects of Turbulence on the Aerodynamics of Oscillating Prisms

چکیده
This experimental study, focusing on the effects of turbulence on long-span bridge aerodynamics, examined the anatomy of turbulence effects on the self-excited forces responsible for flutter and the spanwise correlation of the overall aerodynamic lift and moment. This examination was conducted by measuring pressure distributions around an oscillating prism. A forcedvibration system was used with a model of rectangular cross section instrumented with 64 pressure transducers. Spanwise coherence measurements were made on both stationary and oscillating models in a series of smooth and turbulent flows. Unsteady pressure distributions were examined to observe turbulence-induced changes in the self-excited forces. This allowed a clearer understanding of turbulence effects than was possible by observing only integrated quantities such as flutter derivatives.

متن کاملA Review of Recent Studies on Simulations for Flow around High-Speed Trains
Fluid flow around bluff bodies occurs in numerous fields of science and engineering, such as flows pass vehicles, cables, towers and bridges. These flows have been studied experimentally and numerically for the last several decades. The investigation of flow around high-speed trains is an important application of bluff bodies. Fluid flow, aerodynamic forces and moments, separation and wake regi...
متن کاملTutorial Review: Simulation of Oscillating Chemical Reactions Using Microsoft Excel Macros
Oscillating reactions are one of the most interesting topics in chemistry and analytical chemistry. Fluctuations in concentrations of one the reacting species (usually a reaction intermediate) create an oscillating chemical reaction. In oscillating systems, the reaction is far from thermodynamic equilibrium. In these systems, at least one autocatalytic step is required. Developing an instinctiv...
متن کاملCFD Simulation of High-speed Trains: Train-induced Wind Conditions on Trackside Installations
Speed is the created air flow as well as slipstream effects as the trains move. These effects can have some level of impact on fuel and energy efficiency of the train, but their other important outcome is the emergence of turbulent flows at higher speeds which can cause aerodynamic drag forces followed by noise and vibration. Thus, slipstream effects have significant importanc...
متن کاملUnsteady Magneto Hydro Dynamic Flow of a Second Order Fluid over an Oscillating Sheet with a Second Order Slip Flow Model
Unsteady slip-flow of second grade non-Newtonian electrically conducting fluid over an oscillating sheet has been considered and solved numerically. A second-order slip velocity model is used to predict the flow characteristic past the wall. With the assumption of infinite length in x-direction, velocity of the fluid can be assumed as a function of y and t, hence, with proper variable change pa...
